My Love

I met Barrett our Sophomore year at UGA.  Some girlfriends and I headed next door to the Beta house for a band party one Friday night in March.  While dancing our little hearts away, this strapping young man approached me and wanted to dance.  Unfortunately, I blew him off because I had a boyfriend.  Little did I know I had just met my future husband.  It's crazy now thinking back on it, and it blows my mind the way that God works and has a plan for our lives.  Barrett and I quickly became great friends, largely due to a late-night stroll through North Campus.  That summer, Barrett left to study abroad in Innsbruck, and I held the fort down in Athens.  Once he returned, we will inseparable.

Barrett was my best friend for a year and a half before we started dating.  I love how God allowed a friendship to grow before a romance did.  I had a lot of growing up to do before I could date Barrett, and God knew that.  During that year and a half, Barrett was the person I turned to for everything.  He was always there to listen to me, and I was always there for him.  I never really thought about dating Barrett until one summer night before our Senior year.  Barrett called me, nothing out of the ordinary, and we talked for a bit.  We got off the phone about an hour later.  Within minutes he called me back and told me he needed to ask me something.  He asked me if I had ever thought about us dating.  I replied that I had, but I was too afraid to loose him as my best friend.  He replied that he liked me and wanted to give dating a try, but I told him I wasn't ready.

Over the next few months, we flirted with the idea of dating, but never committed to it.  We went on multiple date nights together and talked daily, but something was still holding me back.  Georgia/Florida rolled around, and Barrett and I spent the whole time in St. Simons together.  We also went to the game together.  When we got back to Athens that Sunday, I went to dinner with my best friend Laura.  I remember talking to her about Barrett and asking her what she thought about it.  Although I can't remember her exact words, something about that conversation changed me.  I drove to Barrett's house and told him I was willing to give it a try!

Well, here we are almost three years later, and I am so happy.  I won't say that our relationship has been the easiest.  We have definitely seen our ups and downs, but that is why our relationship is so strong.  We got married two and a half months ago on July 30, 2011, and as cliche as it sounds, it was the HAPPIEST day of my life.  I cannot believe I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, my love, Barrett.
